Mesotherapy/Acthyderm®
How does Mesotherapy/Acthderm®
work?Mesotherapy treats fine lines, improves skin texture and tone and hydrates the skin. You will need a number of Acthyderm Pulse™ sessions to see visible results, and will then need maintinance sessions every two months.
An Acthyderm® treatment is simple, safe and relaxing. It starts with electroporation, which is done with a special pen that makes the skin temporarily more permeable. An electrical current stimulates the dermis to open up tiny channels to the deeper layers of the skin. Then, before the channels close up, therapeutic ingredients are rolled into the treatment area. It’s a technique that allows the Acthyderm® to deliver large volumes of product deep into the skin for facial rejuvenation, skin tightening of the face and neck, and reduce hyperpigmentation.
A light facial and neck massage finish off the procedure, and we apply sunblock at the end of each session.
How many sessions will I need?
A series of treatments is required to achieve a smoother, more youthful look. Depending on the degree of photodamage, we usually recommend 5-8 sessions, every 1 to 2 weeks, followed by maintenance sessions every 1 to 2 months, which prolong the benefits.
Am I a candidate for the treatment?Acthyderm® treatments can be performed on all skin types and can even be performed during the summer months, unlike photofacials and glycolic and Vitalize® peels. Of course, we recommend that you wear sunscreen every day to keep your skin protected.
We do not recommend this treatment for patients who are pregnant, nursing, have a medical device such as a pacemaker, are allergic to any of the treatment products, or who have an active wound or cold sore. If you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus) involving the area to be treated , you may need antiviral therapy, which can easily be prescribed by Dr. Nield.
How will I look after a treatment?Your skin will immediately look more hydrated. There is no down time and you can get back to normal activities immediately after your session. Depending on the area that has been treated, you will see marked facial and neck rejuvenation, improved texture and tone, improved skin hydration and reduction of fine lines.
Can I combine it with other treatments?Yes. Acthyderm® treatments can be used in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures such as
Botox®,
soft tissue fillers,
microdermabrasion,
Photofacials and
topical creams.
What products are used during a treatment?
The drugs and nutrients that are used with Acthyderm Pulse™ facial treatments include:
- Tretinoin or Vitamin A acid has been used for years by dermatologists to repair sun-damaged skin and improve the signs of aging. It evens out skin tone, fades hyper-pigmentation, builds collagen and stimulates cell turnover. However, because topical absorption of vitamin A acid cream is limited, delivering it directly into the skin via the Acthyderm® offers faster and more visible results.
- Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is a potent antioxidant that helps repair and revitalize sun-damaged skin. It tightens the skin, and improves texture and tone.
- Alpha lipoic acid increases the potency of Vitamin C.
- Hyaluronic acid exists naturally in all living organisms and plays a role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cell function. It holds 1000 times its weight in water, which makes it ideal for replenishing, smoothing and softening skin and decreasing wrinkles.
- Multivitamins and trace minerals support the normal function of skin cell turnover and repair.
- Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is a common ingredient in face and body creams. This alpha hydroxy acid renews the skin, decreases pores, evens skin tone, exfoliates old cells and fades brown marks.
