What is SilkPeel and how does it work?
The SilkPeel consists of a treatment head that has replaceable, sterilized, medical grade diamond exfoliators of different textures and sizes. The treatment head is connected to an infusion system that delivers specific solutions to the tip of the hand piece. When the treatment head is placed on the surface of the skin, a vacuum forms which draws the skin into contact with the diamond head, causing the skin surface to be exfoliated and at the same time, allowing the solution to be driven deep into the skin. This unique system provides both non- invasive exfoliation and delivery of skin- specific topical solutions under pressure, leaving patients with remarkably soft, fresh, hydrated skin.

The SilkPeel’s “wet abrasion” treatment exfoliates the surface of your skin, while infusing it with vitamins, nutrients and anti-oxidants. Your skin is smoothed, hydrated and refined with a visible, radiant glow.

    


What Dermalinfusion treatments are used?
Dr. Nield will choose one or more of the following solutions based on an individual’s specific needs.

Clarifying formula : This formula provides relief for the most sensitive, acne prone skin. It contains salicylic acid that promotes cell turnover, unclogs pores and stimulates the production of new cells and clear skin. It also contains aloe which calms the inflammation and irritation associated with acne. Throughout the treatment, the diamond microdermabrasion tip gently exfoliates and smoothes the surface texture without irritating sensitive skin.

Brightening formula: The Lumixyl Solution employs cutting edge peptide technology to improve the appearance of discolouration and achieve a more even, uniform skin tone. Formulated specifically for delivery with the SilkPeel Dermalinfusion System, this solution offers an accelerated approach to brightening the skin and fading hyperpigmentation without the risk of other brightening agents. This treatment is effective, non- toxic, will not cause sensitivity to sunlight and is safe for all skin types.

The Lumixyl Solution will diminish brown spots caused by age, and photodamage, even out skin tone and a treatment will leave your skin feeling fresh, and luminous.

Hydrating formula: This nutrient rich hydrating solution was developed to quench dry, dehydrated skin. It contains aloe and chamomile to hydrate and calm the skin. Its main ingredient is Hyaluronic acid which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves overall skin texture.

Vitamin C formula: Sun, stress and pollution can take a toll on skin at any age. This solution is suitable for dull, lackluster complexions. This potent antioxidant solution helps to brighten, exfoliate and infuse your skin with an arsenal of targeted antioxidants to protect your skin from free radical damage. It contains Vitamin E and C which protect the skin from further photodamage, improves the appearance of scars and wrinkles while brightening dull skin. Aloe provides extra hydration, leaving your skin soft and glowing.

 
What is a treatment like?
Your face will be cleaned, the appropriate solution and diamond head will be selected for your individual skin care needs. The treatment will feel like a gentle suction on your skin. It is a very easy, relaxing procedure that only takes 30 min. Sunscreen will be applied afterwards. Make up can also be applied if you wish. Recommended skin care will be advised which will compliment and enhance your treatments.

What do I look like after a treatment?
After the treatment, your skin will have a radiant, warm pinkish glow that will usually  fade within 30 minutes, leaving your skin looking fresh and renewed.

Is SilkPeel Safe?
SilkPeel is a simple, safe, non-invasive treatment, performed by a qualified medical aesthetician. Patients experience little to no discomfort. The equipment is thoroughly disinfected between every procedure.

How long does the procedure take?
A treatment typically lasts about 30 minutes. Since the SilkPeel delivers a dermaceutical during the procedure, your skin will feel well hydrated and your post – treatment protocol will be quick and easy.

Do you have a topical solution for my skin condition?
SilkPeel addresses the most common skin conditions such as dry skin, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sun spots, blemishes, acne and environmental damage.

Will I miss work or need to alter my social schedule?
SilkPeel is easily performed within an hour so it can even be done during your lunch hour. You will be able to immediately return to your normal activities.

 
What do I need to do after a treatment?
You will be provided with a customized post- care regime under the direction of Dr. Gail Nield. This will include cleansers, moisturizers, serums and sunscreen to enhance and maintain your results.

Will there be any discomfort?
The exfoliation may cause a mild tingling sensation. However, since the exfoliation is combined with the cool, moisturizing effect of the dermaceuticals, your skin will feel silky smooth.

How long does it take to see results?
You will see visible results after the first treatment and you will achieve optimal results after 4 to 6 treatments spaced 7 to 10 days apart, supplemented by a simple daily skin care routine prescribed by Dr. Gail Nield. Maintenance treatments every few months or so will help your skin to stay healthy.

Are there any risks?
This is usually a very safe and non aggressive treatment. On occasion, an individual may react to one of the ingredients in the dermalinfusion. If you develop any skin irritation, notify Dr. Nield and this can be dealt with quickly and effectively. This being said, we have found The SilkPeel to be a very well tolerated procedure as it is very gentle and non invasive.

Patients who are using prescription Vitamin A products should discontinue the cream  4 days before and after a SilkPeel as Vitamin A acid cream can make your skin more sensitive than normal.

Patients with a history of coldsores may be prescribed an antiviral medication to prevent a coldsore outbreak after a SilkPeel. Such precautions are undertaken with most procedures performed in Dr. Nield’s office , ensuring the best possible outcome for all patients, at all times.

Can a Silkpeel treatment be combined with other procedures?
The SilkPeel can be combined with a variety of cosmetic procedures offered by Dr. Gail Nield to further enhance your appearance. These procedures include photofacials, photodynamic therapy, Botox®, Electrodessication of skin tags and moles, Liquid Nitrogen to keratoses, Softlift, Topical Cosmeceuticals to revitalize your skin, and Injectable fillers such as: Juvederm®, Restylane, Radiesse, Evolence, and Sculptra.
